Visual Food for Thought for the Butler Reading

This is one of my favorite photographs by one of my favorite photographers, Diane Arbus. Just an alternative to Miss Jay (no offense to him) and a truly beautiful, arresting shot.

  1. Over the past few years, I've met several students who really, really like Diane Arbus. This is cool, I think. What's interesting to me, though, is that so many students know Arbus's work in the first place. It is not something that gets a whole lot of mainstream attention.

  2. That's very true...I fell in love with her work when I was in high school and went to an exhibit of hers in LA. Her photographs of "freaks" and people on the edges of society has always fascinated me...probably also why I am so interested in Bakhtin's theories!
