Would you grant Dickinson immunity . . .

if you were stranded on the island with her?

Poem 1263

There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry –
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll –
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul.

All together now:

  1. I think I would be alright if I was stranded with her as long as she talked more about nature or something more pleasant than death.

As for the lady singing the poem with the Gillian Island theme,,, she's got to go haha.

  2. I would not want to be stranded on an island with Emily Dickinson...she is just way too depressing. I would rather be with someone that was optimistic and hopeful about us getting off the island...not someone who would constantly bring up our doom.

And I agree, someone else should be singing this poem...

  3. wbrenner and Sam, I issue you a challenge, then: Form a duet, and sing the poem yourselves!

  4. I agree with the above comments concerning being stuck on a deserted island with Emily Dickinson. Not only would she be bore, but she would make no effort to help out in our survival on the island.

I would prefer if they got Gilligan from Gilligan's Islands to sing all of Dickinson's poems.

  6. I think being stranded on an island might be too depressing also. I don't want to hear about footsteps on my coffin and stopping for death when there is such little hope.

And I read a few of her other poems along with this song and it really does work! (Don't worry i sang in my head) I wonder if she realized that she was constantly writing in the same rhythm.
